BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec.25

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The feasibility study for integration of Azerbaijani, Iranian and Russian electricity networks continues, Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry told Trend.

“The first meeting of the working group on integration of Azerbaijani, Iranian and Russian power systems was held in Moscow on Oct.12, 2018. An agreement on the project’s feasibility study was signed on Aug.12, 2019 with participation of Azerbaijan’s Azerenerji, Iran’s Tavanir, Russia’s Rosseti and Unified Energy System of Russia inked Trilateral discussions are underway with Russia, Iran, as well as the consulting company on the project’s feasibility study. The execution stage will follow the feasibility study.

“Monenco Iran Consulting Engineers Company has been selected a consulting company for the project’s feasibility study after the discussions and agreements reached by deputy energy ministers of Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran.

The company involves a number of international experts and has taken part in working out and implementation of large-scale projects. The project will open up an opportunity for import and export of electricity between the three countries, as well as with other countries. Disruptions in the power system will be prevented through the power systems of the participating countries, which is important for electricity security. At the same time, the integration of power systems will increase the efficiency of electricity generation,” said the ministry.
