A 50-megawatt wind energy power is being built on the joint border between Iran and Afghanistan, Deputy Minister of Energy of Iran, Head of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization Mohammad Satkin said, Trend reports citing the ministry.
According to Satkin, the 25 megawatt-hours unit of the power plant will be put into operation by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2021), and another 25-megawatt unit - early next Iranian year (as of March 21, 2021).
The deputy minister added that with the construction of this power plant, certain infrastructures were created in the border zone, including, high-pressure lines were laid, a substation and telecommunication junction were built, and the internet was laid.
“In addition, a 50-megawatt power plant will be built using 4.2-megawatt turbines,” he said.
The official noted that one of the strongest windy places in the world is the border between Iran and Afghanistan. So, 30,000 megawatt-hours of electricity can be generated with the installation of wind turbines. Of this, 25,000 megawatt-hours may be generated on the Afghan side and 5,000 megawatt-hours in Iran.
