SOCAR’s STAR Refinery increases oil imports

The STAR oil refinery of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR in Turkey imported 878,239 tons of crude oil in December 2020 as compared to 803,427 tons in the same period of 2019, Trend reports citing Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).

STAR Refinery exported 32,970 tons of diesel in December 2020, versus 125,856 tons in the same month of 2019.

The EPDK report shows that STAR refinery produced 577,278 tons and 9,245 tons of diesel and jet fuel, respectively, In addition, during this period, the refinery produced 9,278 tons of intermediate products, 97,162 tons of other products, 19,252 tons of LPG, 124,202 tons of naphtha, 53,270 tons of petroleum coke, 26,684 tons of refinery gas (non-liquid) and 3,802 tons of high sulfur diesel.

Star Refinery, with investment value of $6.3 billion came on stream in October 2018. Around $3.3 billion of the project’s cost was covered by loans. The total investment in Star Refinery is expected to stand at $7 billion.

The annual processing capacity of Star Refinery is 10 million tons. It meets around 25 percent of Turkey’s refined oil products. The refinery is able to process 214,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
