Thermal power plants to be launched in Iran

The thermal power plants with the total generation capacity of 1,71,000 megawatt-hours of electricity will be launched in Iran by the end of the current government in Iran (August 2021), the Deputy Director of Thermal Power Plants Holding Company said Hamidreza Azimi said, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Energy of Iran.

He made the remark in event dedicated to the launch of a number of water and electricity facilities in Iran today on March 16.

Azimi said that a total of 270 trillion rials (about $6.42 billion) has been spent on these stations.

The deputy director added that the names of Heris, Jahrom, Urmia, Chabahar thermal power plants, and gas sections of Hengam, Arian and Zarand thermal power plants can be mentioned among these stations.

According to him, the TPPs and units of TPP with the generation capacity of 1,910 megawatt-hours of electricity have been put into operation in 11 provinces of Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020).

Azimi noted that moreover, 5 steam units of thermal power plant with the generation 800 megawatt-hours of electricity have been put into operating in Iran. The last one of these units was put into operation today.

The official stressed that 200 million cubic meters of fuel will be saved per year with the launch of each steam unit.

Today six water and electricity facilities were put into operation and the foundation of one facility was laid in Iran at a cost of 142 trillion rials (about $3.37 billion).

Reportedly, the first steam unit of the Caspian combined cycle power plant was put into operation in Mazandaran Province (northern Iran). The power generation capacity of this unit is 150 megawatt-hours. About 43.8 trillion rials (about $1.04 billion) was spent on this unit.
