Iran discloses volume of electricity generated in Khuzestan Province

About 44,400 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity has been generated in Khuzestan Province (southwestern Iran) over the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), said Faramarz Shadfar, head of the electricity market department of the Khuzestan Regional Electric Company, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Energy of Iran.

Shadfar noted that 35.4 percent of this electricity was generated by hydroelectric power plants, 63.6 percent by thermal power plants, and 0.94 percent by small isolated electric power plants (solar panels and etc.) and supplied to the Iranian electricity network.

The official added that electricity generation in Iran's Khuzestan Province decreased by 7.6 percent compared to the preceding Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 through March 19, 2020).

“About 42.8 percent of the power generation by thermal power plants accounted for the public sector (Ramin and Mahshahr thermal power plants), and 57.2 percent for the private sector (Zarghan, Abadan, Khorramshahr, Pirouz and Fajr thermal power plants),” he said.

According to Shadfar, electricity consumption in Khuzestan Province amounted to 37,400 GWh in the last Iranian year, which is an increase of 3.8 percent compared to the preceding Iranian year.
