By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

As many as 27 offshore phases of the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar), the first part of the Siraf Pars port and two parts of the 14th phase of the South Pars gas field will soon be officially put into operation, Trend reports citing Pars Oil and Gas Company’s website.

According to the report, the phases of the South Pars gas field are located in an area of 3.7 km. Iran has extracted more than 1.8 trillion cubic meters of gas and 2.2 billion barrels of gas condensate worth $335 billion by the end of last Iranian year (March 20, 2021).

"The first production platform, which has capacity to extract 28 million cubic meters of gas daily, was installed in the Iranian part of the South Pars gas field in 2001, and the last platform which has capacity to extract 14.2 million cubic meters of gas daily was installed in March 2019," the report said.

Currently, there are 372 wells on 37 production platforms in the Iranian part of the world's largest gas field. About 700 million cubic meters of gas per day is transported to land by 3,200 km of 32-inch pipelines, the report said.

According to the report, two parts of the 14th phase of the South Pars gas field will be put into operation. Four platforms were installed and 44 wells were drilled in these parts. The 14th phase was developed by Iranian contractors.

"The Pars Siraf port in the Kangan County of Bushehr Province (southern Iran) is being built to export liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and sulfur produced in the region. The first platform of the port, which will be officially put into operation, is expected to export 5,000 cubic meters of LPG per day. The products of South Pars Gas Company's 8th, 10th and 12th refineries and Kangan Oil Refining Company will be exported through the 1st platform," the report said.

As reported, the South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran's share in the field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate. Iran has so far spent $90 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field.
