By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:
Kazakhstan’s Senate (upper house) of the Parliament has ratified the protocol on amendments to the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) of May 29, 2014 in connection with the accession of the Kyrgyz Republic to it, Trend reports citing Kazakh media.
The goal of the ratified amendments is to determine the methodology for the implementation of interstate transmission of electricity between the members of the Union and Kyrgyzstan.
The draft Protocol was approved on January 13, 2017 at a meeting of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Union. Ratification of the Protocol will ensure the possibility of efficient operation of the energy systems of the Union member states, taking into account the accession of Kyrgyzstan to the Protocol on ensuring access to services of natural monopoly entities in the electricity sector, including pricing and tariff policy.
Presently, Kyrgyzstan is in need to import electricity due to the decrease in runoff in the rivers on which hydroelectric power plants are located, which provide most of the generation of electricity in Kyrgyzstan.
Electricity generation over seven months of 2021 equaled 66.07 billion kWh, which is 7.5 percent more than in 2020, whereas the volume of electricity generated in July 2021 amounted to 8.8 billion kWh, which is 9.6 percent more year-on-year.
