Iran's Petropars Operation and Management Company (POMC) has enhanced drilling on the F9 platform at the Iran-Saudi Arabia joint Forouzan oil field (called Marjan in Saudi Arabia), the Executive Director of the POMC, Hamidreza Masoudi said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.
Masoudi added the drilling, which began on Dec. 11, 2021, is being carried out using a second drilling rig.
According to Masoudi, with this drilling rig, it is possible to conduct water excavations at a depth of 92 meters. The rig will drill 5 new wells on F9, F16, and F19 platforms, as well as, 5 repair wells, and will drill 2 re-entry wells.
The director noted that in total, 26 wells should be drilled in the Forouzan oil field. Of these wells, 12 are new, 11 are repaired and 3 are re-entry wells. As a result, crude oil extraction from the field will increase by 12,000 barrels per day.
On July 2, 2021, Iran's Petropars Operation and Management Company began drilling work on the F18 platform of the Foruzan field with the 1st drilling rig, and 7 new wells are to be drilled with the rig.
The Forouzan oil field is located in the Persian Gulf, 100 km southeast of Kharg Island in the Bushehr Province (southern Iran). This oil field was discovered in 1966.
The field contains about 2.3 billion barrels of oil. Iran reportedly extracts about 40,000 barrels of oil daily from the field at present.
