BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 19. Well No. 4 of the Iran-Saudi Arabia joint Forouzan oil field (called Marjan in Saudi Arabia) will be put into operation soon, the Executive Director of Iran's Petropars Operation and Management Company (POMC), Shamsaddin Mousavi said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

According to Mousavi, drilling work in the mentioned oil well was completed on April 18, and the well will be cleaned in the next few days.

The director added that the well will be handed over to the Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) for operation after technical inspections are carried out and production starts.

“In total, 2,738 meters of drilling work was carried out in this well with the DC-2 drilling rig,” he said.

The Forouzan oil field is located in the Persian Gulf, 100 km southeast of Kharg Island in the Bushehr Province (southern Iran). This oil field was discovered in 1966.

The field contains about 2.3 billion barrels of oil. Iran reportedly extracts about 40,000 barrels of oil daily from the field at present.
