BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 24. Germany is trying to diversify its fossil imports away from Russian coal, gas and oil, Robert Habeck, German’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, said at the World Economic Forum, Trend reports.

“We do it with light speed. We are really improving our ability to get things done, which haven’t been done so good in the past. We are building up LNG infrastructure in Germany right now and try to get new suppliers for oil and coal as well. But this is only one step towards becoming independent not only from Russian fossil fuels and fossil fuels in general. Caring about energy supply security is not contradictory to the greater goal of getting independent of fossil fuels. We have a number of legislation acts now in the parliament that should care for the increased installation of renewables all over Germany,” said the minister.

Habeck believes that today the world has at least four problems or crises: higher inflation, energy crisis, food poverty and climate crisis.

“We can’t solve all the problems if we are concentrated on only one crisis. But if none of the problems are solved, I am really afraid that we are running into global recession with a tremendous affect not only on climate action, but global stability. We have to stick to global markets. If we care only about our own food supply, or energy supply, it will be disastrous for markets. First of all, we have to keep the markets open. We have to solve one problem without creating other problems. For example, if we keep on increasing fossil fuel production, it will contradict with climate goals. Market rules should change,” the minister explained.
