Iran should either import fuel or build new refineries to compensate for low production - OPEX

TEHRAN, Iran, September 12. Iran's gasoline production has dropped and the country is likely to import diesel and gasoline in the future, said the Chairman of board of directors in the Iranian Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Products Exporters ‘Union (OPEX) Hamid Hosseini, Trend reports citing ILNA.

Gasoline rationing per capita in the country has reduced from 250 liters to 150 liters to prevent smuggling, he said, adding that the 60 liters of gasoline at subsidized price and 150 liters at free market rate are sufficient for one household.

"Gasoline production at the Persian Gulf Star Refinery has declined by 11 percent," he pointed out, indicating the country should either import gasoline or build new refineries to compensate for low production.

He went on to say that improving the quality of car engines and monitoring fuel consumption systems would help control the consumption.
