BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 5. The 2nd steam unit of Iran’s Sabalan thermal power plant in Ardabil Province in the northwest of the country, which has the capacity to generate 160 megawatt-hours of electricity, has been connected to the country's electricity network, Deputy Director of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH), Mohammad Ramazani said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

Ramazani said that the Sabalan TPP has a total of 6 gas and 3 steam units. With the full launch of the steam units, the power generation capacity of the power plant will reach 1,440 megawatts.

“About 130 million euros were spent on the construction and launch of the 2nd steam unit of the station. Meanwhile, the 3rd steam unit is planned to be put into use by the summer season (June 22, 2023),” he added.

The deputy director noted that new power units of 3 TPPs have been connected to the country's electricity network since the beginning of the 11th month of the current Iranian year (January 21, 2023) to date. As a result, the power generation capacity of the country's thermal power plants exceeds 73,500 megawatts.

There are 134 thermal power plants operating in Iran. So far, 608 power units have been installed in the mentioned power plants.
