Iran eyes to launch new thermal power units in Razavi Khorasan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 1. Iran plans to put two thermal power units into operation in the Razavi Khorasan Province (north-eastern Iran) in the coming days, Deputy Director of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH) Mohammad Ramazani said, Trend reports.

As a result, the Razavi Khorasan Province's Sabzevar Thermal Power Plant's first gas unit will soon begin operations in the same county. According to Ramazani, the aforementioned gas unit has the ability to produce 183 megawatt-hours of electricity.

Additionally, the deputy director noted that the Sabzevar TPP will include a total of 2 gas units with a combined capacity of 183 megawatt-hours and 1 steam unit with a capacity of 180 megawatt-hours. There are still additional units being built. Overall, this station will be able to generate 546 megawatt-hours of electricity.

According to him, in addition, the second gas unit of Rashed TPP in Torbat-e Heydarieh County of Razavi Khorasan Province is planned to be launched soon. This unit has the capacity to generate 183 megawatt-hours of electricity.

Ramazani said that the first gas unit of Rashed TPP with 183 megawatt-hours was launched in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023). At the same time, the construction of the 180 megawatt-hour steam unit of the station is also ongoing. In total, the power generation capacity of this station will be 546 megawatt-hours.

There are currently 616 power units operating in 134 TPPs in Iran. The power generation capacity of the country's thermal power plants is 74,198 megawatt-hours.

At present, the power generation capacity of Iran's all power plants, including thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, etc., is approximately 91,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 82 percent is accounted for by the country’s thermal power plants.

In Iran, electricity consumption is around 40,000 megawatts per day, except for the summer season (June 22 through September 22). Currently, electricity consumption in Iran is more than 72,000 megawatts per day.
