BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 3. The volume of Azerbaijani electricity exports increased almost nine times from January through August 2023 compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.
According to the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communications, the volume of electricity exports from January through August 2022 amounted to $36.3 million. In addition, for the same period in 2023, this figure amounted to $315 million.
Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary signed a strategic partnership agreement on December 17, 2022, which provides for the construction of an energy bridge from the Caucasus region to Europe.
According to the agreement, the construction of an underwater electric cable with a capacity of 1000 MW and a length of 1,195 kilometers is expected. The cable will be intended for the supply of green electricity produced in Azerbaijan through Georgia and the Black Sea to Romania for subsequent transportation to Hungary and the rest of Europe.
