BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 9. A significant step towards the practical realization of the Vertical Gas Corridor has been announced following an agreement among the Prime Ministers of Bulgaria, Greece, and Romania, Trend reports.
In a joint statement, the leaders of these three nations emphasized their commitment to address the current energy security challenges in the region. They also expressed their dedication to enhancing the diversification of energy supply routes and resources, thereby promoting energy security and independence.
The statement underscores the pivotal role of the Vertical Gas Corridor project, in conjunction with the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector (IGB) and the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) in Alexandroupolis. Collectively, these initiatives are poised to significantly bolster the diversification of energy supplies, fortify EU energy security, and enhance energy independence across the broader region, extending their impact to include the Republic of Moldova and potentially Ukraine.
The Vertical Gas Corridor concept envisions the development of bidirectional natural gas transportation capabilities connecting Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, and Hungary. This strategic initiative aligns with key objectives outlined in the European Energy Policy, aiming to enhance energy security, foster market integration, diversify energy routes and sources, and promote healthy competition within the energy sector.
