ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, October 26. Turkmenistan intends to supply Iraq with 9 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year as part of a swap agreement with the participation of Iran, Trend reports.
This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the Turkmengaz State Concern, Myrat Archayev at the 28th International Conference and Exhibition 'Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2023' (OGT-2023).
"We expect an Iraqi delegation to arrive within the next month, so we are already in the active stage of contract negotiations. We have signed a memorandum, and further technical and commercial aspects will need to be discussed, so this is not one round; we are planning several rounds in the near future," he said.
Archayev clarified that the Iraqi side will conduct negotiations with Iran on this gas scheme independently.
Meanwhile, it became known earlier that Iraq is interested in signing a contract with the Turkmengaz State Concern on the purchase of natural gas for a period of at least 5 years.
