BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 16. SOCAR Polymer (part of SOCAR) manufactured 210,000 tons of products in 2023, 26 percent more than in 2022, Trend reports.
Head of SOCAR Polymer Fuad Akhmadov told local TV channel that out of the output, 139,000 tons were polypropylene and 71,000 tons were high-density polyethylene.
"About 90 percent of the production is exported, the rest goes to the needs of the domestic market. Among active buyers of the plant's products abroad are CIS countries (65 percent in export volume), Türkiye (20 percent in export volume) and others," Akhmadov noted.
SOCAR Polymer exported almost $280 million worth of products in 2023.
SOCAR Polymer's polypropylene plant in Sumgayit was commissioned in July 2018. The maximum (design) capacity of the plant is 184,000 tons of polypropylene per year.
The company commissioned a high-density polyethylene plant at the same location in February 2019 with a maximum capacity of 120,000 tons of finished products per year.
Overall, SOCAR Polymer's plans to be producing 10 types of polypropylene and four types of high-density polyethylene.
