Azerbaijan, Norway forge ahead on pipeline gas exports to EU

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 19. Azerbaijan and Norway showed the highest growth rates in pipeline gas exports to Europe, ranking among the top five pipeline gas suppliers to the eurozone in January 2024, Trend reports via the statistical office of the European Union (Eurostat).

The Eurostat showed that in January, Norway supplied 95,800 terajoules (TJ), which is 13 percent more than January 2023, while Azerbaijan supplied 43,000 TJ (up 9.4 percent).

Leading the top five gas suppliers to the EU in January are Algeria (78,900 TJ, with a growth rate of 1.3 percent compared to January 2023), Russia (47,700 TJ, a decline of 9.3 percent), and the UK (19,000 TJ, a decrease of 3.5 times).

Azerbaijan was also classified as one of the top five pipeline gas suppliers to the EU in 2023, trailing only Algeria, Norway, the United Kingdom, and Russia.

Since December 2020, Azerbaijan has supplied gas to the Eurozone via the Southern Gas Corridor. The EU got 11.8 billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan last year, and this figure is expected to exceed 12 billion cubic meters by 2024.
