BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 30. In March 2024, the STAR oil refinery of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Türkiye experienced a considerable decrease in aviation fuel production, marking a 2.3-fold decrease compared to the same month in 2023, Trend reports.

According to Türkiye's Energy Regulatory Authority (EPDK), the plant produced 37,804 tons of aviation fuel in March 2024, a notable decrease from the 87,647 tons produced in March 2023.

During the period of reduced demand for aviation fuel due to COVID-19 restrictions, STAR swiftly adapted its production capacity, originally designed for 1.6 million tons of aviation fuel, to focus on diesel fuel production. Subsequently, with the easing of restrictions, the plant resumed aviation fuel production to meet escalating demand.

The STAR plant, with an investment of $6.3 billion and launched in October 2018, witnessed approximately $3.3 billion of the project's costs covered through borrowed funds.

With an annual processing capacity of 10 million tons, the plant can process 214,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
