NEWLY ESTABLISHED STATE COMMISSION WILL BE ENGAGED IN DEVELOPING TRANSPORT AGREEMENT BETWEEN AZERBAIJAN AND KAZAKHSTAN ON BTC

The State Commission on transportation of oil through Azerbaijan from Kazakhstan through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline, set up in September by the decree of the Azerbaijan’s President will be dealing mostly with the development of the transport agreement for ensuring the operation of the Baku-Aktau corridor, the head of the Azerbaijan State Oil Company (SOCAR) and the Director General of BTC CO Natik Aliyev said on 19 September 2005, Trend reports.

According to him, the commission was set up in the framework of the aspect that during the transportation of the Kazakhstan oil through the BTC oil pipeline innumerous questions may arise to be reflected in inter-governmental and transport agreements. В"Officials from a lot of relevant ministries and departments comprise the commission. All these issues are to be solved by these ministries and departments as the agreement concerns these particular spheres”, he pointed out.

Touching upon the inter-governmental agreement the SOCAR head said, the agreement is practically ready. “On 21 or 22 September we will hold the next round of talks and I think we will finish on it, namely, it will be ready for submitting to the country’s President. Signing of the agreement will take place at the convenient time and I think it should be agreed with the Kazakh’s side”, Aliyev said.

The State Commission is headed by the vice Premier of the Azerbaijan’s government Abid Sharifov, its members are also heads of SOCAR, State Oil Fund (SOFAR), of the Caspian Shipping Company (CSC) and the Azerbaijan State Railway, as well as the Finance, Taxes and Ecology Ministries.
