Transneft, SOCAR charged in coordinating terms of Azeri gas transit to a long-term period

Mutual energy deliveries in a regime of parallel energy systems of Azerbaijan and Russia made up 1002.6 million KW from the EES Russia to the Azerbaijani energy system and 275.4 million KW/h from Azerbaijani energy system to EES Russia. The statement was made in a 10th meeting of the Azerbaijani-Russian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, Trend reports.

Azerenergy joint stock company and EES Russia, in accordance with the memorandum on cooperation in the electricity sector, signed in May 2004, carried out interaction on organization of parallel work of the energy system of three countries.

Russia informed on its readiness at construction of fast building energy blocs with the unified capacity from 2.5 to 25 MW with possible financing and implementation of the said projects turn key.

Abbas Abbasov, the Azerbaijani vice premier, the co-chair of the commission, said that natural gas supply to Azerbaijan was carried out in compliance with the contract between

the SOCAR and Gasexport. The volume of delivery made up 4.93bn cu m in 2004 and 4.54 billion cu m in 2005. The expected gas volumes for 2006 is 4.5 billion cu m.

In the end of the meeting the commission decided to continue cooperation under the joint working group between Azerenergy and EES Russia and take measures to ensure efficient work. They also propose to consider the issue on implementation of joint projects on rehabilitation, upgrade and constriction of energy facilities in the territory of the countries. Abbasov noted that Azerbaijan intends to ensure oil transit via the territory of Russia in the volume of no less than 3 million tons in 2006. In 2005 oil transit comprised 4.1 million tons, which is 36.6% more than 2004. During the session the authorized enterprises Transneft and the SOCAR were committed to coordinate the terms of transit of Azerbaijani oil for long-term period.
