The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) intends to continue cooperation with the banking sector of Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan.
Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov and President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank Jin Liqun discussed current state of implementation of joint projects in Uzbekistan via a videoconference on 14 May 2020.
Earlier, AIIB jointly with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) developed a concept of a $200-million project to support the health care system and sanitary-epidemiological service of Uzbekistan.
Furthermore, in order to support the sustainability of businesses and preserve jobs under the constraints caused by the pandemic, the AIIB's management plans to channel additional resources through new credit lines to commercial banks in the country.
On behalf of the Government of Uzbekistan, a gratitude was expressed to the bank's management for the approval of a special loan in the amount of $156 million (total amount of the project - $1.3 billion) last week within the first phase of a large-scale project on modernization of road infrastructure in Bukhara region.
It was also announced, that the bank will complete the procedure of preparation and approval of long-term soft loans for the previously agreed projects on reconstruction of roads, water and heat supply systems in Uzbekistan's Karakalpakstan Autonomous Republic and Khorezm region with the total amount of up to $500 million, the report said.
Following the videoconference, an agreement was reached on close and accelerated interaction within the framework of the outlined areas of cooperation.
