Uzbekistan, Belarus eye to expand bilateral cooperation

Uzbekistan and Belarus plan to develop bilateral cooperation in investment, mutual trade, transportation and logistics, Trend reports with reference to Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan

Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov and Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Dvornik discussed these issued at meeting held in a videoconference.

The sides stressed the need to intensify the work on joint projects and initiatives, for which the Road Map on cooperation between the two countries will be reviewed and updated.

“The parties exchanged of views on the prospects of investment cooperation through industrial cooperation between manufacturers of the two countries, based on the successful experience of a number of Belarusian companies already engaged in investment activities in Uzbekistan,” the message said.

Textile, livestock, food and pharmaceutical industries have been identified as priority areas for expanding the presence of Belarusian manufacturers in the Uzbek market.

Measures to increase the volume of mutual trade were also considered, including the introduction of mechanisms for mutual recognition of conformity certificates and test protocols for Uzbek and Belarusian products, the expansion of agrarian forums with the participation of agricultural producers of the two countries and other initiatives.

The sides paid special attention to the development of transport and logistics cooperation, noting the importance of strengthening bilateral interaction to ensure uninterrupted and unhindered cargo transportation.

An agreement has been reached on elaborating constructive proposals on creating favorable conditions for the transportation and transit of goods through the territory of both countries, the message said.

Following the videoconference, it was agreed to create a joint working group whose task will be to ensure the practical implementation of the discussed areas of cooperation and promote joint initiatives.
