Beijing-backed Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) said on August 18 it will lend $100 million to Uzbekistan to help the country combat the COVID-19 pandemic and future public health disasters, Trend reports via Reuters.
"The project to be co-financed by the Asian Development Bank aims to increase capacity for testing, surveillance and treatment of COVID-19 and other infection outbreaks," the message said.
As reported, the loan is part of AIIB’s $13-billion funding facility to help public and private sectors fight the pandemic in the world.
Earlier, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank’s approved a loan of $165.5 million to Uzbekistan to improve the road efficiency, safety and climate resilience of major cross-border roads in the country's Bukhara region.
AIIB is a multilateral development bank with a mission to improve social and economic outcomes in Asia.
