BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Some 802 million lari ($243.7 million) allocated from the 2020 budget for the universal healthcare program of Georgia is already over, Trend reports via Georgian media.

However, the Ministry of Health added 95 million lari ($28.8 million) to the program by the end of the year, which increased the total program expenditures to 897 million lari ($272.6 million).

As of November 18, the total utilization of the program is 831 million lari ($252.5 million). Accordingly, 66 million lari ($20.05 million) might be used by the end of the year.

This is not the first case, when the budget for the universal health care program is over before the end of the year. The same happened in 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016 and 2015, when medical expenses increased faster than planned.

In 2019, 754 million lari ($229.1 million) was earmarked for the program, although the actual costs amounted to 828 million lari ($251.6 million).

In total, the budget of the Ministry of Refugees, Labor, Health and Social Affairs for 2020 is set at 5.6 billion lari ($1.7 billion), of which 4.9 billion lari ($1.4 billion) has already been used.
