Iran's budget plan requires transparency

TEHRAN, Iran, Dec.21

Trend:

It is necessary to have a transparent approach in the new Iranian year (starts March 21,2021) budget plan to justify predicted costs and revenues, said economic professor at Allameh Tabataba'i University in Iran Farshad Momeni, Trend reports via ILNA.

"The strategic targets in the budget plan should be defined and move according to executive policies and MP's should demand more transparency over budget estimations," he said.

"For example without providing a transparent report about stock market tax revenues in the current Iranian year (started March 20,2020), the predicted tax revenues from traded shares in new Iranian year (starts March 21,2021) is six times more than in the current Iranian year (started March 20,2020), that is not based on a measured program, " he said.

"There have been corruption and waste of resources in past three decades and if members of the parliament vote against the general budget plan, it would leave the country with no alternative plan. This, in turn would lead to more corruption, so the MP's should demand for more explanations about the budget plan," he said.

"I am warning MP's that vote against the general budget without alternative plan. It would intensify the crisis. I suggest the MP's demand a transparent process about revenues and costs from the government, " he said.
