Int'l cross-border payments increase in Uzbekistan despite COVID-19

The international cross-border payments of individuals increased in Uzbekistan in January 2021 despite the quarantine restrictions introduced in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection, Trend reports referring to the press service of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan (CBU).

According to the CBU, the volume of international cross-border money transfers in January 2021 amounted to $427 million, which is $27 million, or seven percent more compared to last year.

In terms of cross-border remittances directed to foreign countries, this year it amounted to $101 million. As a result, the positive balance on international cross-border remittances amounted to $326 million.

The CBU noted that last year, the volume of international cross-border remittances in Uzbekistan amounted to $6.03 billion, which is $17 million or 0.3 percent more than in 2019.

Most of all receipts to Uzbekistan were recorded in September - $638 million, while the least were recorded in April - $250 million.

Earlier, the CBU has forecast an increase in remittances in 2021 by five percent compared to last year.
