Bulk of Jan.2021 loans to electric energy sector in Azerbaijan issued in foreign currency

The volume of lending to the electric energy, gas, steam and water supply sectors in Azerbaijan amounted to 268.3 million manat ($157.9 million) in January 2021, Trend reports on Mar.8 citing data from the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the CBA, 256.6 million manat ($151 million), or 95.6 percent of the total lending accounted for long-term loans. Some 1.2 million manat ($710,000) were issued in national currency and 255.4 million manat ($150.3 million) in foreign currency.

Short-term lending to the mentioned sectors made up 11.7 million manat ($6.9 million) or 4.4 percent of the total lending. Loans worth 3.9 million manat ($2.3 million) were issued in national currency and 7.8 million manat ($4.6 million) fell on the foreign currency.

Most of the loans were issued to state-owned enterprises in foreign currency, accounting for 98.1 percent (263.2 million manat, or $154.9 million) of the total lending to the sectors. Operations carried out in national currency amounted to 5.1 million manat, or $3 million (1.9 percent).

In general, the volume of lending to the Azerbaijani real sector amounted to slightly over 14.5 billion manat ($8.5 billion) in January 2021.
