Azerbaijan sees decrease in bank deposits

The total volume of bank deposits of Azerbaijan’s population, including individuals, decreased as of early May 2021, Trend reports citing a statistical report from the country's Central Bank (CBA).

According to the CBA, in the reporting period, this volume made up over 4.07 billion manat ($2.39 billion), a decrease of 4.9 percent on annual basis.

Meanwhile, the share of deposits of individuals in foreign currency is 48.7 percent of all deposits. The volume of deposits of the population, including individuals, in national currency, reached 4.28 billion manat ($2.52 billion), growing by 23.1 percent for the year.

The share of deposits of individuals in the national currency made up 51.3 percent of the total volume of deposits of the population.

In general, the volume of bank deposits of the population of Azerbaijan, including assets of individuals, amounted to 8.35 billion manat ($4.91 billion) during the reporting period, thus growing by 7.7 percent year on year.

The deposits of residents and non-residents reached 8.07 billion manat ($4.7 billion) and 278.4 million manat ($163.7 million), respectively. In annual terms, investments of residents have risen by 688.1 million manat or $404.7 million (9.3 percent), and those ones of non-residents dropped by 93.2 million manat ($54.8 million, or 25.1 percent).

As of early May this year, the total volume of deposits in Azerbaijani banks exceeded 24.2 billion manat ($14.2 billion), which is 3.6 percent more compared to the same period of 2020.
