Azerbaijan sees decline in average number of users per payment terminal

The average number of users per payment terminal in Azerbaijan, including ATMs and POS terminals, decreased by 10 people in the first 4 months of 2021 compared to the same period of 2020, settling at 4,050 people, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) told Trend.

As the CBA noted, the average monthly amount of transactions per ATM reached 650,300 manat or $382,530 (2,850 transactions), having risen by 23.2 percent in annual terms.

“The average monthly amount of one transaction through an ATM in the specified period amounted to 227.9 manat ($134), and the average monthly amount of transactions through one POS terminal – 6,830 manat or $4,017 (for 126 transactions). The average monthly value of one transaction through a POS terminal amounted to 54.2 manat ($31.8),” the report said.

“As of early May 2021, 2,770 ATMs operated in Azerbaijan, of which 1,453 operated in Baku, 1,317 - in other cities and districts of the country. The number of ATMs increased by 5.1 percent on annual basis,” the CBA said.

The number of POS terminals amounted to 59,036 units, of which 38,753 units were installed in Baku, 20,283 - in other cities and districts of Azerbaijan. Their number basis increased by 2,368, or 4.2 percent on annual basis.
