Central Bank of Azerbaijan reveals 1H2021 volume of currency exchange operations

The exchange operations in Azerbaijan were mainly carried out in US dollars, British pound sterling, euro and Russian ruble in the first half of 2021, Trend reports with reference to the statistics report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

During the reporting period, the local banks purchased over $128 million and sold $76.7 million.

The purchase of US dollars by the banks increased by 24.1 percent, while sales decreased by 47 percent compared to the first half of 2020.

The banks have purchased 504,800 British pounds from January through June 2021, which is 40.2 percent more on annual basis.

At the same time, banks sold British pounds worth 640,900 pound sterling (rise of 23 percent for the year).

During the reporting period, the local banks purchased over 6.2 million euros (decrease of 3.1 percent in annual terms) and sold 18.6 million euros (growth of 32.7 percent).

Meanwhile, the banks purchased 1.67 billion Russian rubles, which is by 24 percent more than in the first six months of 2020 and sold 170.7 million Russian rubles (1.2 percent increase).
