Georgia shares data on property insurance

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 14

Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Only 6.9 percent of the Georgians insured their real estate, said President of the Georgian Insurance Association Devi Khechinashvili, Trend reports via Georgian media.

"No one insures property at their own initiative in Georgia - most of the clients of insurance companies in this segment are either business companies or buyers of apartments in the primary real estate market who when receiving mortgage loans are obliged by banks to insure them," he said.

There are practically no cases when a citizen came on his own, without any obligation, and without being a businessman insured his real estate at his own initiative, Khechinashvili says.

According to the Insurance Supervision Service, only 6.9 percent of the population - 187,797 citizens - use property insurance services. In 6 months of 2021, insurance companies reimbursed damage in the amount of 4.7 million lari ($1.5 million).

"Aldagi" is a leading company in the property insurance market and accounts for 36 percent of all insured, the company raised 26.8 million lari ($8.6 million) from the property insurance.
