BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 2. A total of 6.9 million payments worth 121.3 million manat ($71.35 million) were made in Azerbaijan through the Apple Pay payment service in the first half of 2022, Trend reports via the "Payment system review" of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).
The CBA is actively working to involve other providers of innovative payment solutions in the country's market.
Contactless payment with Apple Pay was launched in Azerbaijan in November 2021.
According to the CBA, 88 percent of non-cash payments in Azerbaijan are contactless. A total of 73 percent of money transfers fell on e-banking. In accordance with the Central Bank's strategy, the bank eyes optimizing the legal framework, expanding the digital infrastructure, carrying out activities to inform the public about innovative products and solutions by 2023.
