Iran, Russia to officially begin trade with national currencies

TEHRAN, Iran, November 2. The Deputy Director of the Department for International Studies of the Central Bank of Iran Mehdi PourAzdadi announced the possibility of signing documents and contracts during the 16th meeting of the joint commission for economic cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation, Trend reports citing ILNA.

Referring to the MoU signed between the central banks of Iran and Russia in the previous meetings, Mehdi PourAzadi stated that the most important issue is to implement bilateral trade with Russia using the two countries` national currencies, the ruble, and the rial.

In late August, the head of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Ali SalehAbadi said Tehran and Moscow have already started using their national currencies in certain fields of trade and are set to de-dollarize other sectors of their commercial relations as well.

The 16th meeting of the joint economic commission of Iran and Russia started on Sunday to Tuesday and was hosted by Russia in the presence of representatives from the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum, Foreign Affairs, Economy and Finance, Roads and Urban Development, Energy, Science, Research and Technology, Agricultural Jihad, Sports and Youth, Communication and Information Technology and representatives from the presidential office, the Islamic Parliament, the headquarters of the armed forces, the Supreme Council of Commercial, Industrial and Special Economic Zones, the Atomic Energy Organization, the Central Bank of Iran, the National Development Fund of Iran, the National Standard Organization, Chamber of Commerce and Iran Business Center in Russia.
