BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 30. Net financial assets increased by $7.7 billion in 2022, Trend reports via the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the CBA, the growth of net financial assets was achieved due to an increase in the portfolio and other investments in the amount of $1.1 billion and $6.4 billion, respectively, as well as a foreign direct investment worth $172 million.

During the reporting period, net financial liabilities decreased by $4.7 billion due to an increase of $452 million in the oil bonus, the attraction of foreign direct investment in the amount of $6.2 billion, and other investments totaling $403 million.

At the same time, net financial liabilities decreased due to a decline in the repatriation of attracted investments in the amount of $11.2 billion, and portfolio investments in the amount of $633.3 million.

As the CBA reports, in 2022, the total balance of Azerbaijan's balance of payments amounted to $9.3 billion, which is 3.1 times higher than the same indicator of the year before last.

Moreover, the current account surplus in 2022 increased by 2.83 times from $8.3 billion to $23.5 billion (29.8 percent of Azerbaijan's GDP) compared to 2021.
