BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 27. The share of renewable energy sources in Europe's energy mix increased to almost 45 percent in the 2023/24 winter season from 36 percent in the 2022/23 season, analyst of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Greg Molnár said, Trend reports.
He estimated that over the 2023/24 winter season, the share of fossil fuels in Europe's energy mix fell to less than 30 percent from 36 percent.
"However, the role of gas for power plants and security of supply in the EU continues to grow. In particular, gas helped with power generation in January 2024 when wind power generation (WPP) was low," Molnár believes.
The total amount of gas in European gas storage facilities (UGS), as of March 26, is around 670 TWh, compared to 629 TWh at the end of winter 2022/23, which means that the current year is a record year for the availability of gas in Europe's UGS.
