BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 24. Baku Shipyard may kick off the building of Azerbaijan's inaugural diving vessel with a fuel-efficient hybrid engine for the needs of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) before the year is up, the statement of Baku Shipyard said, Trend reports.
"Such a dive vessel is being planned by Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company CJSC for SOCAR. It will have a unique battery installed in compliance with contemporary "green" norms. Thus, there can be two modes of operation for the vessel: an engine operating on renewable energy or regular gasoline. When every last detail has been decided upon, we will begin building such a vessel," the statement noted.
This project is in line with ASCO and SOCAR's environmental policy and follows the recommendations of the UN International Maritime Organization (IMO) to a tee.
The year 2025 could see the launch of this unique diving craft in Azerbaijan. The vessel will include a cargo crane, a speed of 12 knots, and the ability to operate at water depths up to 60 meters.
