BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 11. COP29 presents an opportunity for everyone that cannot be overlooked, the President of COP29 Mukhtar Babayev said at the opening ceremony of the conference in Baku today, Trend reports.
"Current policies are leading us to global warming at the level of three degrees. This will be a catastrophe for billions of people. Climate change is not a problem of the future; it is already happening. COP29 is an opportunity to begin a new chapter for all, and it cannot be missed," he emphasized.
Babaev added that the problems need to be addressed urgently, and a lot of work needs to be done.
"During these 12 days, the negotiations will be difficult, but the disagreements must be resolved," he said.
The COP29 conference has officially started today in Baku, Azerbaijan. Running from November 11 through November 22, this pivotal event brings together world leaders, policymakers, and climate experts to address the urgent challenges of climate change.
