Date of next court hearing between Maltese Bank and Azerbaijan Government Defined

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Babayeva / During the next hearings at the Rotterdam Court scheduled for 9 October on legal hearings between the Maltese FIMbank and the Azerbaijan Government oral testimonies will be provided by both sides, the head of the Rights and Human Resources Department at the Azerbaijani Communications and Information Technology Ministry, Bakhtiyar Mammadov, said on 27 September.

This explanation includes oral evidences earlier documented testimonies.

The bank raised a petition on attracting additional witnesses the trial and the Rotterdam Court fulfilled the petition. Hearings on three witnesses (two by the part of the bank and one on the part of Azerbaijan) in Rotterdam have been held in December 2006 and June 2007.

Mammadov regards the petition as an attempt of prolonging the legal hearings.

"The details will be clarified during the meeting," Mammadov said.

For several years, FimBank has been demanding that Azerbaijan pay off a loan in the amount of over $4.5mln, which, according to the bank, was allotted to Azerbaijani telecommunication companies under the state guarantee. Azerbaijan, in turn, states that these companies never existed and were not issued guarantees.

The first lawsuit was initiated by FimBank in July 2004 at the courts of Rotterdam and Paris
