Azerbaijan to study introduction of electronic signature in Latvia

Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb.12 / Trend corr S. Babayeva / Azerbaijan will study introduction of electronic signature in Latvia, a source in the Azerbaijani Communication and Information Technologies Minister said on Feb.12. 

"A delegation, consisting of the ministry's representatives, will pay a working visit to Latvia on Feb.16-17 in this regard," the source said. 

Deputy IT Minister Elmir Valizade will preside over the delegation. 

A meeting with state representatives of Latvia is planned within the bilateral visit.

Consortium of local companies Ultra Computers, Azerin and Microsoft Azerbaijan won a tender on development of natural infrastructure of public keys to apply electronic signature, announced by the data-computing center of the Azerbaijani IT ministry in September.  

Electronic signature system will be launched in Azerbaijan in October, 2009, head of Microsoft Azerbaijan company Teymur Akhundov earlier.

The pilot phase of the project is planned to complete in March during which sample of cards will be launched.

"Every citizen will be able to obtain a smartcard with electronic digital signature which is equal to signatures on documents," Akhundov said.  

The cost of the project is not publicized due to confidentially of evidences.

Law of Azerbaijan on electronic signature and electronic document envisages the current system.
