Malaysia stands ready to acquire satellite resources of Azerbaijan

Malaysia is ready to buy 40 percent of Azerbaijani Satellite Azerspace, Minister of Communications & Information Technologies Ali Abbasov said in an interview with journalists. It is planned to be launched in 2011.

The Minister said that currently negotiations are being held with several countries regarding sale of other 40 percent of the Satellite. In general, the Ministry intends to present 80 percent of the resources of Azerspace to the international market, while other 20 percent will be used at domestic level.

The Minister emphasized that the project would be economically advantageous achievement for Azerbaijan, and investments will justify themselves within five to seven years, after which the Satellite will be 100 percent profitable.

International Telecommunication Union recognized Azerbaijan as a country with achievements in communications and information technologies. Under the terms of the organization, if Azerbaijan does not launch a satellite within the next 5 years, the positions provided to Azerbaijan can be withdrawn. In its turn, Azerbaijan is ready to launch two satellites during this period.
