About 10,685 manat were invested in the reconstruction and expansion of the Baku Telephone Network in 2009, the Communications and IT Ministry said. According to the ministry, the number capacity of the automatic telephone exchange increased to 48,128.
A total of 48.6 kilometers of cables have been built along the Mardakan-Shuvalan-Gala Turkan-Hovsan-Zich to provide government agencies with alternative means of communication. Operations are continuing to lay 84.4 kilometers of fiber-optic communication lines connecting the automated telephone exchange in the area of Shuvalan-Zich.
