Azerbaijan, Baku, September 14 / Trend H. Valiyev /

Azerbaijan supports proposals to allocate 790 and 860 MHz frequency bands to meet the needs of the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System, which was designed for 3G mobile communications, the Azerbaijani State Radio Frequency Administration told Trend today.

The issue was discussed during meetings between Regional Commonwealth of Communications' (RCC) committees on radio frequency and radio compatibility regulation in Baku on Sept. 7-9.

Proposals were prepared on the rational use of the 790 and 860 MHz frequency bands, which will be released during the transition from analogue to digital television for GSM operators.

These frequencies are used in Azerbaijan today for digital television. They are also used in civil aviation in some RCC member states.

The final document on the allocation of frequency resources for mobile operators will be submitted for consideration during the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference in Mexico on Oct. 4-22. A final decision on the matter will be taken at the ITU World Radiocommunications Conference in 2012.
