Azerbaijan, Iran interested in expanding cooperation in ICT sphere (UPDATE) (PHOTOS)

Iranian Communications and Information Technology Minister Reza Taghipour during a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ali Abbasov expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between countries in the ICT sphere, and also stressed the prospects for its expansion in the spheres of postal service, Internet and other areas.

Abbasov said that Azerbaijan is also interested in expanding cooperation between countries in the ICT sphere.

As a result of the meeting it was decided to create a working group on cooperation in the sphere of information and communication technologies, which will contribute to the development of bilateral relations in the ICT field.

Taghipour said that over the past year the development of economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran entered a new stage. Existing opportunities and agreements between the two countries allows further developing the existing ties.

According to him, Iran is ready to develop cooperation with Azerbaijan in the ICT field.
The Iranian minister said that Iran successfully cooperates with the Azerbaijani ICT Ministry in the field of communication and information technologies, as well as traffic transit.
"We will further make every effort to enhance opportunities for cooperation," Taghipour said.
Regarding to intrusion of the Iranian channels into Azerbaijan's air space, Taghipour said that television and radio structures in Iran are independent, but with the assistance of the Iranian ambassador in Azerbaijan, all of these problems will soon find its positive solution.

Azerbaijan cooperates with Iran in the field of postal service under a memorandum signed on March 10, 2009 in Tehran between the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies and the Iranian Information and Communications Ministry.
At present, Azerbaijan and Iran are testing a money transfer system STEFI (Secured Transfer of Electronic Financial Information).

Azerbaijan and Iran already have a tentative agreement on cooperation in the field of money transfer, international mail, ground mail to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through Iran, and on the joint publication of postage stamps.

The agreement envisages holding regular bilateral meetings.
