Iran stands ready to consider the lease of capacity of the first Azerbaijani communication satellite Azerspace, Iranian Minister of Communications Reza Tagipur said in Baku.

According to him, the resources of the satellite can be used to provide information services and communications services in remote areas of Iran. This issue was discussed at a meeting held today with Minister of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan Ali Abbasov.

Azerspace satellite was designed to provide services of digital broadcasting, Internet access, data transmission, create multi-service networks VSAT, and government communications. Some capacity of satellite to be launched in late 2012 will be given for rent.

Touching upon the issue of cooperation in the field of telecommunications with Azerbaijan, the Minister said that today, thanks to the transit traffic through Azerbaijan, Iran was able to increase the volume of incoming traffic by two times.

Also, the minister said, the talks in Baku also covered cooperation in the field of postal communication, the issue of transit of postal orders via Iran to the Persian Gulf and through the territory of Azerbaijan in the north. The sides also discussed the possibility of increasing the capacity of the international channels of communication and reducing tariffs. Initial agreement has already been reached in this regard, said Tagipur.

Also the talks covered the establishment of e-government. According to the Iranian minister, the population of Iran enjoys about 500 e-services, including Internet banking services, e-commerce, distance learning and others.
