By late 2011 Azerbaijan's mobile operator Azerfon will increase applications based on the 3G network, Azerfon Corporate Communications Manager Elshad Farzaliyev told Trend today.
Farzaliyev said that one of the innovations for Azerfon subscribers will be availability of additional multimedia services.
As was previously said, Azerfon subscribers will be offered e-commerce and navigation services with the establishment of the appropriate infrastructure.
The company plans to continue expanding its 3G network which, in addition to traditional voice services, will enable rendering high-speed data services, mobile TV, video calls and other services.
At present, besides Baku, Sumgait and the Absheron peninsula, Azerfon's 3G-network operator is deployed in Ganja, Shirvan, Nakhichevan, Mingachevir, Sheki, Tovuz, Shamkir, Guba, Khachmaz and Lankaran. Future plans include expansion of the 3G network throughout the republic.
Roughly 50 million manat will be invested in expanding Azerfon's mobile network by late 2011, Farzaliyev said earlier.
The data transfer rate in a 3G network is 7.2 Mbit / s.
