Kazakhstan is planning to launch a mobile number portability system (MNP), which allows switching to another mobile operator without changing the mobile number, in the next two years, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan Saken Sarsenov told Prime-minister's website.

"We are going to gradually launch this technology in two years. Now we are developing an action plan for the transition," Sarsenov said.

According to the Deputy Minister, it is planned to launch MNP on a pilot basis in Astana in mid-2014. By 2015, the technology will be used in all regions of Kazakhstan.

MNP technology will create conditions for competition between operators.

"The big operators will not want to lose their customers and will think about their rates," Sarsenov said.
