Technical problems are hampering the launch of the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service, the Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Elmir Velizade told journalists on Thursday.
According to him Azerbaijan's Communications and Information Technologies Ministry expects the mobile operators will solve this problem in the shortest possible time, otherwise the issue will be considered by a court.
"We can say that in a specific sense, the issue of the legal regulation is a warning for the operators for them to do their best for the earliest solution of the problem related to the launch of this service," the Deputy Minister said.
The system of providing MNP services will be coordinated by the Information-Computing Centre of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies.
Contracts at the launch of this service have been already signed with three operators (Bakcell, Azercell and Azerfon).
Implementation of the MNP service will allow mobile communication subscribers to save their phone number in case of changing the operator.
Transfer of numbers implies full migration of subscriber number along with the operator's prefix (050, 051, 055, 070 and 077).
