Uzbekistan to attract loan from China Development Bank

Uzbekistan intends to attract a Chinese loan of $40 million for the development of the telecommunications infrastructure of Uzbektelecom, Trend reports with reference to a draft government decree.

The main objective of the project is the introduction of modern data transmission technologies, the development of optical broadband access networks and the modernization of the national mobile communication network.

A soft loan may be allocated by China Development Bank for a period of five years. It will be fully focused on the purchase of technological equipment and software.

Chinese company Huawei and the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications Development of Uzbekistan earlier discussed the possibility of launching a fifth-generation network on the base of one of the three state-owned mobile operators.

In addition, Uzbekistan and China are in the process of creating a joint venture for the implementation of the Safe City project.

Another important area of ​​cooperation is a pilot project in Tashkent on the introduction of a face recognition system. Currently, law enforcement bodies of Uzbekistan conduct negotiations about the project development with Huawei company.
