Fiber-Optic, LTE to overtake copper-based internet lines in Azerbaijan

The coverage of broadband internet networks, Fiber-Optic (FO), and LTE services in Azerbaijan will increase to 80 percent by 2024, Trend reports.

This is reflected in the concept and forecast indicators of the economic and social development of Azerbaijan for 2021 and the next three years, included in the budget package for 2021.

According to the data, it is planned to improve the quality and speed of broadband services provided through copper lines, to services based on Fiber-Optic technologies (FTTH-X standard), as well as to bring network coverage within this technology to 90 percent by 2024.

In addition, it is planned to ensure the indicators of the average Internet speed per user in the broadband network from 3.6 Mbit / s to 45 Mbit / s by 2024.

From January 1, 2019, to November 1, 2020, the coverage of the population of Azercell's LTE network in Azerbaijan increased from 35.9 percent to 85 percent, the total number of base radio stations operating on this technology increased from 828 to 2,616 units. In just 10 months of 2020, 721 such stations were commissioned. In turn, the number of users of Nar mobile operator in the 4G network increased by 35 percent in the first nine months of 2020.
